Women Empowerment
Women and youth in Africa remain among the most marginalized groups despite forming the backbone of the informal economy and driving much of the continent’s entrepreneurial activity. Their limited access to resources, land, capital, and economic opportunities continues to hinder inclusive development.
Since 2011, our organization works with semi‑rural and rural communities to advance gender equality and economic empowerment through programs that strengthen women’s entrepreneurship, support small‑scale farmers, and expand access to skills training and digital inclusion. This program supports over 38,000 beneficiaries providing women entrepreneurs and farmers with seed capital, land access, and sustainable agriculture training to enhance food security and build resilient livelihoods.
SAEF’s work also focuses on closing the gender digital divide, promoting SMEs, climate‑smart farming, and equipping women and youth with the tools needed to participate fully in emerging economic opportunities. Through fair‑trade channels, products and food produce reach local, regional, and international markets, creating income streams that directly benefit the artisans and their communities. Proceeds are reinvested into community development, including skills transfer, revolving funds for micro‑enterprise resources, education, and essential household needs. This model supports the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) by fostering inclusive trade, strengthening women‑led entrepreneurship, and contributing to poverty reduction across the continent.
